Bring your accounts, transactions, and repeating transactions into IAPZ Cashflow from a CSV, Excel (.xlsx), or JSON file, from Buxfer, your bank, or anywhere else. Nothing is saved until you've checked it, and any import can be undone.
Go to Settings › Import, and choose Import beside Transactions.
Moving from Buxfer
Buxfer gives you two files. Import them in this order:
- Transactions (what has cleared). In Buxfer, export your transactions as CSV.
- Reminders (what's planned and repeats). In Buxfer, export your reminders as CSV. Each reminder becomes a repeating transaction.
Some Buxfer plans don't export future transactions. That's fine: your reminders hold what's planned.
The steps
1. File
Choose the file. For an Excel file with several sheets, choose the sheet; for a JSON file with several lists, choose the list.
2. Contents
Choose what the file holds: Transactions, Repeating transactions, or Accounts. IAPZ marks the one it looks like.
If you've imported a file like this before and saved your choices, choose Use “…” (with the name you gave them) to skip straight to checking.
3. Columns
For each field, choose the column that fills it. IAPZ suggests matches from the column names; change any that are wrong. A field can also take the same value for every row, for example every row goes into one account.
Check how dates are written. When a date like 10/08/2026 could be October 8 or August 10, IAPZ asks.
Matching columns needs a computer. On a phone, you can import a file whose choices you've already saved.
4. Values
Tell IAPZ what the words in the file mean, for example that Buxfer's "Cleared" means cleared and "Pending" means planned.
Then choose which account each account name is: one you already have, or a new one. For new accounts, check the type and currency.
5. Check
Before anything is saved, you see what will be imported and choose what to do with anything unusual:
- Today's balances. For each new account, enter its real balance today (for a credit card, what you owe as a negative number). IAPZ works out the opening balance from it and the imported history, so your balances today are exact, and your history is kept.
- Rows with problems (such as a date that isn't a date) are listed with their line number. They're left out; fix the file and import again to include them.
- Transfers with no other side. Buxfer records a balance adjustment as a one-sided transfer; these are suggested as balance adjustments. You can also make them income or expenses, or leave them out.
- Planned transactions dated before today are left out. Today's balances already include whatever really happened, so importing them would only leave overdue transactions to tidy up (and marking them as cleared would count them twice). Untick any you still expect to happen.
- Already in IAPZ? Transactions that match one you already have (same date, amount, account, and description) are left out unless you untick them.
- Repeating transactions spotted. When three or more planned transactions repeat on a regular pattern, IAPZ offers to make them one repeating transaction.
- Amounts needed. A reminder with no amount needs one, or is left out.
To import the next file like this one in a couple of taps, give your choices a name under Save these choices for next time.
Choose Import.
Undo an import
Every import is listed under Past imports, below the import. Undo removes everything that import added, including accounts it created. An account is kept if you've added transactions to it since.
Saved choices
Your saved choices are listed under Saved choices, where you can Delete them.
